It’s not everyday you find a Rolls on your local CL...
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Acres of wood and leather. Also I like how it says
1987 Rolls Royce Silver Spur was traded on a new Porsche.
First time I’ve heard that.
Now for the stupid idea:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Cons:
Every body panel has been vandalized
Cracked windshield
Has nail in tire, so 2 new tires
Needs new tie rod on rear passenger side ($100 for parts)
It’s early 2000's Ford quality with Jaguar mechanicals
Pros:
It runs (for now)
It’s $1500
*Jeremy Clarkson voice* It’s a Jaaag.
I want it.
Talk me out of it.
Please.

Can’t say it enough times. This thing just screams “money pit”- hell, it’s a money chasm, a money black hole, a money incinerating device. It needs thousands in repairs now, and I shudder to think of what maladies await this machine down the road.

if it were as easy to fix that jag as you describe, the previous owner wouldve done it. CP

“Serious offers only. No tire kickers.”
Seriously, Man, unless you own a body shop, how on Earth could this be worth anything except for parts?

Well, I have to say, I can see a scenario where this might be a very appealing purchase. Say you have a reliable commuter, you’ve got $2,000 lying around, and you just want something with a big V8 to cruise around in on weekends. Maybe you’ve always had a soft spot for Jaaags. If you don’t mind the scratches, and you buy it with an “if it breaks, it breaks” kind of attitude, this could be a great weekender.

Sure, except that much of the Jag’s appeal is its style. Why would you want to cruise in one that has been bashed, beaten, and trashed? The style is gone.

That’s a good point. Still, though, I betcha there’s someone out there who’d love to own a Jag for $1,500, scratches or no. I think, for some people, just having the thing is enough, not having the thing in perfect condition. And some people really like Jaguars.

Yeah, if the interior is still good, and the ride is nice, I could get behind that.

As V6 or bust says, its still a decent car. Scratches and dings are a big deal to me. And its a Jaaag.

Sorry we’re not doing a good job talking you out of it, I guess, but you came to a crack house for help with your addiction.

I take it you’re in the Springfield area. Did you visit Isringhausen back in the fall of ‘13 when they had the LeMans blue Jaguar XJ220?
A buddy and I drove down to see it (Quad Cities) and man it was unreal; truly incredible presence in person. I always thought it was beautiful in pics, but it was simply indescribable in person. That was a bucket-list car of mine to see and I still can’t believe I was able to cross it off the list.

No, it’s no Jag, but the S-type is in no danger of being remembered among the great Jags either. I can’t speak for that particular Benz of course, but I’ve had 3 124 chassis cars and that same motor in a w210 and the two combined make for a pretty bulletproof combo. By no means cheap to fix when stuff goes bad, but the quality of the parts generally mean once you fix something, you’re done with that for another 7 years.
